One of my passions is humanitarian mapping, which is adding geographic features to open source maps, which enhances navigation, assists in disaster relief, and provides insights into planning and land use.
I use a free tool called OpenStreetMap My projects include mapping for the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), an international humanitarian mapping organization that focuses on using geospatial data to reach people impacted by floods, drought, pandemic, and other crises.
Other specific mapping focus areas and projects are:
- Bemus Point, NY area – navigation and wayfinding
- Long Point on Lake Chautauqua State Park – trails and amenities
- St Bonaventure University – campus features
- Town of Ellery, NY – land use
- Town of Allegany, NY – land use
- Ridgway, PA – buildings and land use
- Vestal, NY – sidewalks and pedestrian features
- Central Ireland – Historic hedges and other land use
- Northern Lebanon – roads and buildings for disaster relief project
